A Myrtle Beach Vacation is Not a Last Resort
Myrtle Beach South Carolina - Smiling Faces - Beautiful Places
In fact, the grandstrand should be considered as your first choice of vacation getaways.
Fun Fun Fun
Fun is the keyword along the Grand Strand region of South Carolina. It's a popular tourist spot along this bit of coastline and includes the city of Myrtle Beach, which receives more than 14 million visitors alone.
A Myrtle Beach vacation is a gateway to all the great beaches and facilities. Keen shoppers have plenty retail outlets and the restaurants are of a high standard, many of them specializing in local seafood.
The long standing Sun Fun Festival is designed to get everyone in holiday mood. It takes place at the start of June and includes beauty pageants, parades and human checker board games.
Don't Get Fined!!!
It's a favorite with tourists and locals and demonstrates the area's sense of humor. Anyone not wearing shorts or swim wear during the festival gets a fine!
This franchise, associated with actors Dan Ackroyd and the Belushi brothers has the best in music and southern dishes. There is family entertainment at the Carolina Opry, a variety show that plays different sorts of music including show tunes.
Golfing at the Beach
There are several golf links that will appeal to the experienced golfer and excellent tennis courts too. The area has more than 120 golf courses and the city claims that it has the most miniature courses of any region in the world.
Whether that is a true statement or not, a Myrtle Beach vacation is an ideal break for golfers.
The Famous Dance of Myrtle Beach SC
The city was seen on the big screen in 1989 when the film, Shag was released. Largely shot in the area, it starred Bridget Fonda and Phoebe Cates. It did not merely serve as a pleasant location however.
The local dance, called the Shag, gave the film its inspiration. This dance, designated as the state dance of North and South Carolina, was a Myrtle Beach invention and it has entries into dance competitions across the country.
It developed from the jitterbug dance of the 1940s, when people strutted their stuff to the big, swing bands of the day. Nowadays, the sound of R&B and music played at beach parties, accompanies the dance.
